5 Things Everyone Should Avoid To Increase Life Expectancy

Life expectancy is one of the growing concerns in almost all countries. By and large, it depends on a country’s healthcare system. For instance, countries with bad healthcare management are likely to have a low life expectancy. South Africa can be a good example here; according to the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa’s average life expectancy rate is 54 years. In 2021, it was hardly 48 years – which is way below the standard life expectancy rate. On the other hand, countries that are developed and have reliable healthcare management in place, have a higher life expectancy rate.

According to the Center for Diseases Control & Preventions (CDCP), the average life expectancy rate of an average person is 77 years. But the problem is that people in the majority of countries around the world do not make it to the threshold of 77 years. In others, they die before hitting their 70s. You could blame their lifestyles, bad dietary plans, and unconsciousness of well-being. But at the end of the day, this is the sad truth. Statistically, we are lagging behind the standard life expectancy rate.

Nonetheless, if you become conscious of your health from an early age, you are very likely to exceed this ‘standard’ life expectancy threshold. In others words, if you live well, eat the right food, and take care of your well-being, you can live longer than 77 years.

With that said, here are five things that you should not do if you want a long and prosperous life:

  1. Do Not Sit Around Or Sleep For Hours

One of the fundamental keys to living longer is constantly moving your body. This means that you are not laying on your bed for hours or sitting around mindlessly. Statistics suggest that 40% of Americans have become “lazy” and lay around for hours after the pandemic. The study also shows that this ‘unusual’ lifestyle shift is reducing the life expectancy rate of Americans.

So, first things first: Do not sit around or lay on your bed mindlessly for hours. Instead, engage your body in tiny little activities. Here are some of the easy ways to engage your body consistently:

  • Clean your room.
  • Wash your car.
  • Go to the grocery store on foot.
  • Develop a habit of morning walks.

The point is to find something you can easily attain and engage your body in constant movement with.

2. Do Not Eat Too Much

Another essential that adds up to healthy well-being is eating healthy food in the ‘standard’ quantity. While overeating is one of the seven deadly sins, it is equally harmful to your body. Apart from seasonal illnesses, it can also ruin your lifespan in the long run.

Thus, try to eat moderately. Understand how much food your stomach can afford to digest. Once you achieve that, try to eat healthily. As a result, you will develop healthy well-being and live longer.
